Scotty’s Drive In – Idaho Falls, Idaho
Scotty’s has a nice space age look to the sign, and to the curvature of the supports for the canopy. Things get a bit visually cluttered with the retro tin signs and back-to-the-fifties theme on the inside, but on the whole it plays it pretty close to the original concept. They make a nice drive-in burger with just the right crust to the flat-top grilled meat.

Jeri’s Jumbo Cafe – Pocatello, Idaho
We stopped for breakfast at Jeri’s Jumbo. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, which used ground beef as its base. Good flavor to the meat and breading. The real joy of Jeri’s was the bread. Fresh baked, hot out of the oven, thick cut and toasted, for a bit of crunch to the outside and a soft, warm center. Really a treat.

Over the hill and enjoying the view?

It looks like the sign once had a neon elephant on top to match the Jumbo name

The Polar Bear and the Barrel – Great Falls, Montana
Polar Bear Building – 900 Central Ave W, Great Falls, MT
Currently for sale, this building appears to have last housed “Cash Converters”. What was it originally? An ice cream stand? Whatever it was, the building itself has been remodeled and covered over. It’s surprising and fortunate that the iceberg and polar bear on top has survived.
Barrel O’Bucks
527 Central Ave W, Great Falls, MT 59404
This looks like it was originally a fully barrel shaped building which was gradually added onto over the years. The question is – what was it originally?
