The Walker Hasslinger – Baltimore, MD

1701-5 North Charles St., Baltimore, MD

Seafood and Liquors, with an off-licence. The classic combination of Seafood, Steaks, Chops and Chicken, all near Pennsylvania Station. And while you’re there- why not relax in the Mariner’s Nook Bar and Lounge?

The building is still there, and still has the remains of what looks like it used be a great neon arrow sign. Later became Walker-Hasslinger’s and the Chesapeake Restaurant. For more, see this page.

The Barrel

Photobucket
The Barrel Drive in was located on 301 north of Glen Burnie. Unfortunately, I can’t find anything else about the place on the internet- so if you have any information or memories- please drop me a line!

Noted neon preservationist Norman James was kind enough to send me a photo of “The Barrel” when it was still operational.

The Rosebud Diner – Somerville, MA

We stopped in here for breakfast on Monday morning. My corned beef hash was some of the best I’ve ever had. The Worcester semi streamliner has to be my favorite model of diner, and this one is in great shape. Great food in a great building in a great location. What’s not to love?

I later found out that I missed seeing Larry Cultrera (of Diner Hotline and Classic Diners of Massachusetts fame) by a matter of a few hours that day. Funny how those things happen.

Yankee Clipper Diner- Beacon, NY

The current Yankee Clipper diner replaced a 1946 “Arrow” model O’Mahony. Pretty standard 1990s diner design, but on a smaller, more manageable scale. Still looks brand new, condition-wise. Enormous menu, and a great chili cheese burger.

A-1 Diner updated photos

Tried to go again for my yearly A-1 fix, but got the timing wrong. We did, however, hit it with the sun shining on it instead of from behind it for once, so we managed to get some good pics.

The A-1 is a Worcester semi streamliner located in Gardiner, Maine. There are a couple other posts on it on the blog with interior pics, etc.
