Teamster’s Joint Council- Portland, OR

Roxie Cinema- Pittsburgh, PA? I can’t find anything about the theater, about the film “Little Brimstone” or the actress “Jean Fox”. Nothing either for “And Moonlight Too” starring Lisa Swan and Robert Dickey. A mystery. Maybe it’s an architectural model for a theater which was never built? Difficult to tell from the picture.

Trip to PEI
Matt Mays – February 17, 2011
I’m a big fan of Matt Mays and all the talented folks in his band.
Anna and I saw guitarist Jay Smith at the Tribeca in December. He’s recently released a solo album, aptly titled, “Jay Smith”. You can listen to it on soundcloud or buy it on itunes. Really catchy pop-rock.
We saw the “Carletones” at the Carleton, consisting of Adam Baldwin, Jay Smith, Serge Sampson and Tim-Jim Baker.
The show was opened by Christina Martin and her band.

It was a start to a Gretsch guitar filled night.
The weather cooperated for this one- just above freezing, which made the whole night much more enjoyable. The huge crowd filled the grand parade (renamed Celebration Square for the Canada Games, presumably to confuse locals). We managed to show up early enough to get relatively close to the stage. The crowd seemed a bit younger than the other shows. More high school and first year students- more people showing up late and pushing their way to the front.
The band put on an excellent show. Mays knows how to work a crowd, and the guys in the band seemed to be having a great time.
Hey Rosetta!- February 16, 2011
Half the fun of this concert was watching all the people slip and slide as they tried to make their way across the steep hill we’d managed to find space to watch the show from. The band seemed pretty chilled as well.
Sloan- February 15, 2011
This show marked more or less the twentieth anniversary of Sloan’s first concert- at NASCAD, just down the road from the grand parade. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t cooperating, with wind chill bringing the temperatures down to a frigid -15 degrees F. The cold kept the crowds away and kept the set short. Despite parkas and gloves, Sloan still managed to put on a great set.
The Joel Plaskett Emergency- February 14, 2011
The Joel Plaskett Emergency kicked off the two weeks of Canada Games concerts with a bang. I interviewed Plaskett back in 2009 for Guitar International magazine. Really nice guy, and a tremendous songwriter.

An interplay of wood forms and textures produce an arresting, easily identified building. Setbacks in plan permit window for each booth. Service drive is adjacent to kitchen, routes delivery trucks away from customer parking. Location of entrances permits closer supervision of all areas.

Waist-high windows allow use of built in seats along outer wall, still permit interior and exterior views.
