Here are some Little Taverns and other roadside attractions we hit up the other day in Baltimore and on the way up.

Little Tavern No. 3 – Hampden, Baltimore
Found this one on “The Avenue” in Hampden. It was the first Little Tavern to have originally been built in the tudor cottage style, all the ones built prior to this were more along the lines of a White Castle. Despite the roof now being gone, the building is recognizable by its window and door placement, as well as its dimensions. It is being used as the bar for the adjoining restaurant, and the interior looks like it still has some original fixtures.
Built Jan 29, 1931, Baltimore No. 3 (First “Streamlined” Little Tavern- those built prior were of the castle style, it appears. Some were converted to the tudor style later on)
908 W. 36th St. Baltimore MD
New Silver Diner- Rockville, MD
I went to the new location of the Rockville Silver diner today. I think it’s a little smaller than the former location, the 20 year old Kullman a couple blocks down the road, but it has pretty much the same feel. The corporate offices are upstairs. I got to go up and see those as well. In a nice design detail, they’ve put screens over the second story office windows so that from the outside, they look like stainless panels. The murals on the inside seem to be identical to those at the previous location. I had an excellent burger; nice and juicy, and a mint milkshake with oreo bits.
Best- James Wines – S.I.T.E.
I came across some pictures of one of these buildings while looking through books at the school library today. Definitely worth a look.

New Silver Diner- Rockville, MD
Ingram’s diner- Jefferson, MD
Blue Dolphin Diner- Katonah, NY

There’s nothing left of the interior of this ’30s Kullman turned upscale restaurant, and the Mansard roof dominates the facade, nevertheless, it’s a very rare diner with a mostly in-tact exterior and neon.
175 Katonah Ave nr Rt 35, Katonah 10536
Suburban Skyliner Diner- Cortland, NY
Burlington Diner- Burlington NJ
It’s now known as Amy’s Omelette House, and the great neon on the pylon has been replaced by a plastic sign.
I love the lines of this one. The barrel roof makes me think its an earlier diner that was remodeled- I think in one of my diner books there are pictures of it before it was stainlessed up- I’ll have to find those and scan them. DeRaffele did the updating and/or new construction.
