The Summit Diner- Somerset, PA
While we’re on the topic of the Summit Diner, here are some photos, mainly of the interior, from the past six years.
July 2004- more or less as it came from the factory, with 40+ years of wear.
Jan 2007- ceiling beams painted black, some reupholstered stools
2007- original wallpaper on far back wall. Fits with the colonial/western interior theme
2007
Jan 2008- new stools, new counters, formica replaced with diamondplate or quilted stainless, clock covered over with stainless and retro coca cola clock. Doors to kitchen replaced with stainless. Wagon wheel light fixtures replaced with stainless.
Jan 2008 – middle row of booths removed, replaced with retro boomerang formica topped tables. Back wall with original wallpaper painted over black, copies of magazines mentioning diner framed. Formica replaced with diamond plate aluminum or stainless. Woodwork painted black.

Silver Diner new location
I saw this in the Gazette yesterday, a view of the new Silver Diner, to be built down the road, which is to replace the current Kullman-built Rockville Pike location as the flagship location
Silver Diner- Rockville, MD
In light of recent news, I thought it was best to take some photos of the Rockville MD Silver Diner, their original and current flagship location. It was one of the first old-style diners and was built by Kullman.
All American Diner – Panama City Beach, Florida
My apologies for the poor photos, but here are some shots of the All American Diner of 10590 Front Beach Rd, Panama City Beach, Florida, which I took today from the car. It’s a 1996 Starlite.
Milford Diner, Milford Delaware
The Milford is a 1956 Fodero. It was originally part of the same regional chain as the Hollywood Diner, just up the road in Dover, which is from about the same era. Apparently, there were originally six in that chain. The Milford has not fared quite as well as the Hollywood in terms of preservation, but that didn’t affect the food, which was excellent. From the vestibule to the right has been covered over, with a large addition added. The interior is recognizable, but much has been changed or is missing. The owner was a true diner guy, however, and seemed to really appreciate what he had despite its condition.

Sugar and Seeburg 200 Wall-o-matic. The 200 wall-matic was only made from 1955 to 1956, from what I’ve been able to find.

Breakfast Specials (granted, this picture was taken three years ago or so, so prices have probably gone up) They were all ridiculously inexpensive, and what we had was excellent, and served in large portions.
#1 Two Extra large any style eggs, homefries, toast and jelly – $1.25
#2 Two Hotcakes and two strips of bacon – $1.95
#3 Cereal with milk and fruit juice – $1.25
#4 “Big Mess” – Three eggs, Homefries, onions, peppers and ham all mixed together, with toast – $3.95

Happy Day Diner
The Happy Day Diner, is a 1959 DeRaffele, which in recent years, has been redone in recent years with a retro, back to the ’50s theme, complete with Elvis Presley on the vestibule, an a giant smiley face. Interesting that the smiley face wasn’t designed until 1963, and not really popularized until the ’70s, but then again, none of the rest is anything you would have ever seen in a diner in the ’50s, so it kind of follows.

American Dream Diner- Harrisburg, PA
I hit this one up on a Harrisburg area road trip a few years back. It was built in 1953 by DeRaffele, and was previouly named the By-pass Diner. It’s a truly beautiful old place, with broad turquoise striping and gleaming stainless. It’s still very original, as you can see from the pictures. As of a couple years ago, the food and service matched the quality of the architecture. If you’re ever in the Harrisburg area, this one’s a must see.
